Colombia is ranked 95/188 on the Human Development Index (HDI), which classifies the country as one with high human development; however, it is clear that development among municipalities is quite dissimilar. The objective of the present article is to measure the 2015 Municipal HDI in Colombia by using indicators of its dimensions of health, education and income. The results show that out of the 1,102 municipalities, 93 register an HDI value above the national one. It is highlighted that municipalities located near Bogota, Medellin and Barranquilla are in better relative conditions, while municipalities with worrying development situations are concentrated on the periphery of the country. The results suggest creating a governance environment oriented towards development with equity to avoid widening the gaps between sub-national units.
