Objective: To analyze social inequalities in mortality due to infectious diseases, malignant tumors, cardiovascular diseases, external cause injuries, diabetes mellitus and its relationship with socioeconomic characteristics in the Department of Choco 2009-2013. Methodology: study of ecological type, the information was collected from the bases of the National Administrative Department of Statistics, Situation Analysis in Health, National Planning Department, the unit of analysis were the thirty municipalities of the Department of Choco. The information was organized in Microsoft Excel. The Epidat 4.1 software was used. Infectious diseases such as acute respiratory infection (ARI), cancer, malignant tumor of the uterus and malignant prostate tumor were included. Chronic diseases; of cardiovascular type, how they are: Hypertensive, ischemic heart, cerebrovascular diseases (CVD), external cause injuries such as: homicides including sequelae and events of undetermined intention and diabetes mellitus, taking into account as variables or socioeconomic determinants, the municipal added value; VAM, illiteracy and unsatisfied basic needs (NBI). Result: There is greater social inequality in mortality due to ARI, malignant tumor of the uterus, malignant prostate tumor and hypertensive disease in the municipalities that present worse VAM and greater illiteracy. Conclusions: The social inequalities in mortality mainly affect the municipalities of the department of Choco with worse socioeconomic conditions such as worse VAM, illiteracy and higher NBI.
