This work is the product of research carried out within the framework of the “Pacts for Innovation” training required by innovation policies at the regional level in Colombia, carried out by the Chamber of Commerce of the department of Caldas with the endorsement of Colciencias. An instrument was applied to companies and institutions in the educational sector, participants in the Pacts for program, which allowed characterizing innovative capacities, establishing indicators, evaluating the impact of training, and identifying innovation management gaps in participating educational organizations. From international organizations, there is concern for schooling without learning and desertion at all levels in America Latina, the largest gap in managing innovation in educational organizations being resistance to change, which arises from political will and the active participation of managers, as well as the creation of alliances. The results obtained allowed the establishment of strategies to close gaps in Innovation Management of the participating companies, of which the main ones are: Participation of managers and the formation of leading teams in innovation management, approach of the Innovation objectives for each educational organization, structural and organizational changes aligned to these objectives. Establish organizational memory, formal documentation and monitoring of projects, define budget for ACTIs, especially promote external ACTIs. Creation of incentive mechanisms to encourage joint work: managers, collaborators, researchers and students as creative potential. A greater number of participants from the Caldas educational organization is needed, with the commitment to put into practice the knowledge acquired in the “Pacts for Innovation” program and focused training for the sector, since innovation in education addresses various approaches that could accelerate relevant changes.
