This document seeks to explore the legal and economic approaches that have been used to address the implementation of cryptocurrencies in Colombia, emphasizing the possibilities that the currency presents within different contexts of society. The article compiles the existing literature related to the regulation of virtual currencies in Colombia, in order to ascertain the feasibility of long-term success for these assets. It assesses their benefits as decentralized and safe tools, also considering their possible disadvantages.
