The purpose of this study was to describe the components of salary compensation at middle education public institutions in Colombia according to the theoretical contributions of Parker et al. (2012), Robbins (2013), Ivancevich (2012), Davis y Newstrom (2012), among others. It was an analytical and descriptive research that followed a non-experimental, field design. Teachers from middle education public institutions in Barranquilla, Colombia made up the population from which a sample of 65 teachers was excerpted. A 30 item questionnaire with multiple-choice answers (Always, Frequently, Sometimes, Hardly Ever, and Never) was designed. The instrument was validated by 8 experts and reliability was determined through the Alfa-Cronbach method resulting in a 0.94 index which indicates that the instrument is highly reliable. Results were contrasted with the theoretical framework and led to the following conclusion: it is evident that educators perceive both their base salary and the incentives as unfavorable, whereas their perception on the benefits they get is neutral
