The Templo Mayor was a dynamic construction that constantly revived a mythological passage; likewise, some of the ritual deposits found around the building could represent mythic scenes. This was the case of Offering 69, which perhaps recreated the moment when the body of cipactli wasdismembered to create the earth's surface. Clearly, the elements deposited in the offerings constitute sets of symbols and codes, hence, to understand what is represented in the offerings, the distribution of the objects must be studied, based on a meticulous record of the excavation. In addition, both historical sources—written and pictorial—and ethnographic sources must be used for their interpretation.
