Objective: The aim of this paper is to present the route that a group of workers with loss of work capacity carry out in the Occupational Risk System to access health care and economic benefits, and the effects such route brings to their lives and their families. Method: Qualitative research with ethnographic approach. Based on the theoretical and methodological proposal of bureaucratic itineraries from Abadia and Oviedo, interviews with workers (n=22) and different actors (n=32) involved in the qualification process were addressed to identify the route. Files regarding the clinical and legal processes of the workers were also reviewed. Results: The Colombian General System of Social Security structured under the scheme of insurance market, imposes administrative, financial and legal demands to consolidate access to services. Each system (health care, labor risks, pensions) manage to disengage from the worker, to the extent that he is expelled from one or more systems, remaining unprotected. Discussion: A complex itinerary that describes the failures of the system and its relation with the structural conditions given by the neoliberal policies that guide the current General System of Social Security. It breaks the body by separating the origin of the contingencies between common and labor, leaving aside the integral conception of the human being and his wellness. Conclusions: This research identified a bureaucratic social dynamic, subject to the profitability of insurers, which prevails over health care and the protection of people, bringing as consequences the deepening of poverty, occupational disability and dissolution of the family nucleus. Keywords: Social Security; Labor Risks; Work accidents; Occupational disease.
