The topic of reading comprehension will always be relevant at any school level. Consequently, trying to enter into its processes, study them, analyze them and propose new ways of approaching the problems caused by not understanding a text will always be welcome, even more so if the difficulties are framed in the context of early education. . The research carried out by Luis Manuel Cardenas Cardenas, Wilmar Salazar Obeso and Luis Carlos Cardenas Ortiz, addresses the issue in question and presents it in the book that the reader has in his hands, based on the study of reading comprehension in the context of the Social Sciences. The results they reached are congruent with the initially thought claims of inquiring into the factors that help or hinder the development of reading skills. At this point, it is important to point out that the underlying interest of the researchers not only stems from the influence of the imperatives —in educational matters— of current Colombian society and the national and international community, but also in the reality in which finds the chosen institution in the face of reading comprehension difficulties that it has been going through. The reference to the school (and its sixth-grade students) that is the object of the research can, without any risk, be extrapolated to other school institutions of its kind, and even to higher education, since the problems are shared and are the same, in the sense that at all levels of training reading comprehension offers difficulties, fortunately that can be overcome, as can be seen in the development of this study. The authors provide lights that other researchers can use to illuminate the shadows of the subject in question, starting from a central purpose in their study: to characterize the levels of reading comprehension reached by sixth grade students, based on reading comprehension strategies. , the textbook and the reading materials used by the Social Sciences teacher.
