Until 1983, a great deal of information derived from research and exploration tasks carried out in Colombia, in the earth science field, was dispersed in different national companies and institutes. In an effort to know, reunite, and utilize efficiently such information, the Colombian Bank of Geological Information (INGEOCOL) was created. This bank has more than 300.000 documents, registered in institutional data-bases. The documents serve as reference points for geological-mining research, teaching, prospecting tasks, evaluation and development of natural resources programs, in which the country is engage.This paper presents a brief story of INGEOCOL, including its achievements, services and plans for the near future.
