The National Study of Consumption of Psychoactive Substances in the Colombian school population has been carried out with “the objective of estimating the magnitude of substance use, in addition to determining the distribution of the phenomenon in relation to sociodemographic factors, studying related factors and evaluating the trend of drug use in the country ”(Ministry of Justice and Law-Observatory of Drugs of Colombia, Ministry of National Education and Ministry of Health and Social Protection, 2016). On this occasion, the Government of Antioquia, through the Departmental Secretariat of Health and the Universidad Catolica de Oriente, have joined forces to carry out the study in municipalities of Eastern Antioquia, which will also include the mental health component in adolescents of the ninth grade of educational institutions in the region. The purpose of this study is to estimate the prevalence of psychoactive substance use and characteristics associated with mental health in school adolescents between 14 and 16 years of age. The Research method is empirical-analytical, transversal, of correlational scope. The population will be adolescents between 14 and 16 years old, enrolled in public and private educational institutions in the urban area of the municipalities of eastern Antioquia. The sample design will be randomized by municipality following the parameters of 95% reliability and 5% margin of error, with an estimated prevalence of the phenomenon of 5%. The instruments used are the CICAD / OEA Inter-American Observatory on Drugs Protocols: survey of high school students based on the scale for estimating problematic marijuana use, therefore the CAST scale (Cannabis Abuse ScreeningTest) was used in the same form) and the parent involvement scale adapted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University; the RYFF SCALE: PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING and the GODMAN SDQ SKILLS AND DIFFICULTIES QUESTIONNAIRE. The results of the research will allow the analysis of the situation and the formulation of future interventions aimed at both prevention and intervention of the phenomenon.
