Spanish Abstract: Este articulo introduce el complejo tema de una politica institucional para el uso del computador en la educacion colombiana. Presenta la necesidad de una concepcion clara de las ventajas, fortalezas y limitaciones de la tecnologia de la informacion en el campo educativo y su vinculacion en el curriculo formal. Es necesario tener claridad sobre los propositos, las razones, las metas y objetivos del uso y aplicacion de esta nueva tecnologia para evitar frustracion e inversion de tiempo, esfuerzo y recursos economicos que podrian ser infructuosos sin la debida planeacion. Se asume que un buen uso de la tecnologia tendria implicaciones positivas en educacion en general. Consecuentemente, la tecnologia debe estar al servicio de la educacion y no al contrario. English Abstract: This article introduces the complex theme of an institutional policy for the use of computers in Colombian education. It presents the need for a clear conception of the advantages, strengths, and limitations of information technology in the field of education and its linkage in the formal curriculum. It is necessary to have clarity about the purposes, reasons, goals, and objectives of the use of these new technologies to avoid frustration and investment of time, effort and economic resources that could be unsuccessful without proper planning and training. It is assumed that a good use of technology would have positive implications for education in general. Consequently, technology must be at the service of education and not the other way around.
