This study was conducted in order to find out the possible causes that led to the stablishment of nomad dairy herds in the Palmira area. Thecnical aspects in relation to cattle production are analyzed: productive and reproductive parameters; management, health, marketing and credit as well as economic and social aspects related with this type of enterprise. Some interesting aspects are discussed; e. g. use of non conventional feeds and resource to home recipies to treat mouth disease, mastitis, diahrrea, etc. Grazing sites were evaluated and available vegetation was determined, toxic plants are reported.
