This article analysis the modality of postal traffic and urgent shipments as a dynamic of international purchases by SMEs and final consumers in the Colombian market. The characterization of this modality is presented from the current customs and tax regulations, then the services provided by the main operators in Colombia are presented and a comparative analysis of these is carried out based on the variables offered services, transport rates and delivery times, involving the advantages, disadvantages and barriers that this modality presents for users in Colombia. Finally, an analysis of results is carried out, through which it is concluded that the modality of postal traffic and express shipments facilitates the importation of merchandise, simplifying the import process, generating tax benefits and, thus expanding the offer of products with prices more competitive the success of this modality is affected by processes that present inefficiencies such as the lack of interoperability (simultaneity) of the control entities that increase customs clearance times, logistic gaps in deliveries in secondary cities and municipalities and the high Reverse logistics costs.
