The objective of this article is to highlight the importance of the municipal diagnosis for the identification of local potentialities as a preliminary stage for planning exercises. Through secondary information and under the concept of territorial competitiveness, the municipality of Sevilla, in the department of Valle del Cauca in the Pacific Region of Colombia (RPC), is analyzed with respect to its social characteristic. The results lead to identify the municipality’s possible territorial potentialities in social terms.
