The paper presents the main work of Kant as a propaedeutic of the metaphysics,namely, as a prior and methodical disquisition that attempts to lay the foundations for theconstruction of a metaphysical system. Therefore, the evolution of the concept of metaphysicsis indicated first. Secondly, it contextualizes the difficult situation experienced by thisdiscipline in the time of the philosopher. Thirdly, the project of his transcendental philosophyis approached. Finally, mention is made of the controversy over the main interpretations ofthe Critique of Pure Reason in the twentieth century.
