Between 1998 and 2010 the Universidad del Atlantico experienced the longest violence in its history. During these years, more than twenty members of the university community were assassinated. The men and women whose lives were blinded worked as teachers and administrators; others were students trying to finish their careers. Her membership in political, student and union organizations were one of the most visible characteristics. As a consequence of these violent dynamics, dozens of them had to leave the city and the country. With this, social, student and union organizations, as well as the mobilization of citizen and academic forces were reduced. Some student movements disintegrated completely, while others reduced their presence on the public scene and retreated - sometimes silently as a survival strategy.
