OBJECTIVE: To determine the nutritional status of school-age children in the agricultural educational institution of birds, indigenous resguardo, of the municipality of Santander de Quilichao, Cauca. METHOD: A work plan was elaborated where the scientific method was used, we carried out theoretical research, field research; for our study the weight and height of the students were taken, in 2 rounds, and a sociodemographic survey was applied, with the data obtained the students were classified in the corresponding nutritional status using the weight indicators for the size, height for age and body mass index (imc), applying the official standard number 008 (nom-008-ssa2-1993) and taking as reference the tables of the national center for health statistics of the World Health Organization ( NCHS / OMS / CDC 2000.) RESULTS: In the agricultural educational Institution las Aves, indigenous reservation, of the municipality of Santander de Quilichao, Cauca more than half of the children are men and less than half are women. According to the weight / height index, more than half of the children had an adequate nutritional status with 57.1%, with less than a third with alterations in the nutritional status: 20.9% of overweight and 1.1% thinness. According to the height / age index, more than half of the boys and girls had an age-appropriate height with 59.3%, 24.2% risk of delay in height, 14.3% delay in height. The study revealed a low proportion of malnutrition cases, and in many cases overweight prevailed; issue that needs to be analyzed to perform intervention of the factors that predispose this condition.
