This paper presents the results of an investigation whose objective was to analyze the life skills developed by the participants of the Business Laboratory of the commercial technical educational institutions of the department of Boyaca (Colombia). It is a qualitative research, with a socio-critical approach, where learning is seen as a significant process, which involves aspects of daily life and deepens social values, from the observation of students in their natural context, with a view to create a liberating and emancipating pedagogy. The participants are students from commercial technical educational institutions that have a Business Laboratory and have participated in several departmental meetings of Business Laboratories. The information was collected through an open group survey and experiences of the students participating in the thirteenth and fifteenth meetings and reports from the UPTC graduates of Business Administration. The results showed the development of emotional, social and cognitive skills, expressed in empathy, conflict management, decision making, assertive communication and critical thinking, among others. Therefore, the development of life skills in students of commercial technical secondary education is a task of educational institutions, based on the creation of their own didactics and adequate scenarios to create a business reality that allows the verification of theories
