This study identifies the relationship between excess of weight, physical activity patterns, sedentary activities and food consumption of female students with ages between 5 to10 years of an educational institution located in the district of Barrios Unidos in the city of Bogota DC. 22 students participated in the study, an anthropometric nutritional assessment was performed (weight and height, body circumferences of waist, arm and different skinfolds, such as biceps, triceps, sub scapular and supra iliac), we used the standards of WHO growth 2006-2007 and cutoff points of the Resolucion 2121 of 2010. To estimate physical activity we used pedometers and a survey of sedentary activities; also we recorded the food consumption of two weekdays and one day of the weekend. We performed X2 tests and Fisher exact test to establish association between overweight, physical and sedentary activity and food consumption. 70.8% of the population studied was overweight and 29.2% was obese, 42.9% of the population practiced a mild level of physical activity, 36.3% of the population sleeps between 10 to 11.9 hours in a 24 hour period, 45.5% of the population is sedentary during weekdays for a period of 2 to less than 4 hours a day, 50-60% of the population had an excess energy, protein and carbohydrate consumption, with percentages of 100% and 90% respectively. Fat intake was adequate for 80% of the population. No statistically significant evidence was found between excess weight and physical activity levels (p = 0.818), the practice of sedentary activities (p = 0.1333) and food consumption (p = 0.857).
