This work offers an overview of the narrative built around the events of January 23, during the democratic period (1959-1999) and in the course of the so-called Bolivarian Revolution (1999-2014). The sources for the analysis have been the commemorative speeches pronounced in the Venezuelan Parliament on the occasion of each official celebration related to this date, between 1959 and 2014. This essay reconstructs the plot of meanings given around January 23 from the main tribune of the country. And, it also tries to distinguish the political ideas implicit in the reading of a historical event, faced with the situation and the motives of the speakers to remember it.
