Political participation in Colombia has been co-opted by traditional political parties. Since the approval of the 1991 constitution, the inclusion of social movements and youth has become evident, gaining great visibility on the political scene. A case study was developed taking as object of study the Activista citizen movement, taking into account its relevance in the last local elections of 2019 in Bogota and that it is a citizen movement composed mainly of young people and representatives of multiple social organizations . sectors. The study is based on the compilation of interviews with members of the movement and a review of the internal documentation in order to reconstruct the composition of the movement, emphasizing the programmatic platform; the identification of achievements, difficulties and motivations of social and political activism; and positions on the participation of young people and social movements. The study shows that social movements give the option of thinking and expressing themselves freely, defending causes and not traditional political thoughts. It is also important that the impact of politics in daily life is internalized in young people, not only in the exercise of the right to vote but also in the need to appropriate other participation mechanisms.
