Background : cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most frequent tumor in the group of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC); there has been an increase in morbidity and mortality worldwide. Objective : to describe the clinical, epidemiological and histological characteristics of the patients with cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma treated at the “Dr. Octavio de la Concepcion y de la Pedraja” Clinico-surgical Teaching Military Hospital of Camaguey. Methods : a descriptive, longitudinal and retrospective study was carried out from January 2016 through December 2019, with patients with a diagnosis of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, treated at the aforementioned institution. The data were collected from the medical records and the biopsy book of the department of pathology of the hospital. Results : 70 patients with primary SCC were diagnosed; there was a prevalence of patients with 60 years and over with 37 cases (52,8 %), followed by the 50 to 59 age group with 20 cases (28,6 %). A higher incidence in the male sex was observed, 52 cases (74,3 %). 70 % corresponded to Bowen's disease (BD), the rest, infiltrative primary SCC (IPCC). Among the predisposing factors sun exposure predominated in 60 patients (85,7 %). Skin phototype III was the most found, 43 patients (61,4 %), and the location in the nasal pyramid in 27 cases (38,7 %). The most frequent histological types were the moderately differentiated in 30 patients (42,8 %) and well differentiated ones with 22 cases (31,4 %). Conclusions : the clinical, epidemiological and histological characteristics of patients with cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma were described.
