Segregación socio-espacial de los usuarios del Sistema Integrado de Transporte Público (SITP) con discapacidad en la localidad de Kennedy, Bogotá, Colombia
The following paper aims toward the understanding and recognition of the existing social and spatial spaces within the 8th district of Kennedy, which belongs to the city of Bogota (Colombia), keeping the public transportation integrated system as the main scenario (SITP), which fails to provide the minimum standards in terms of mobility for the handicapped population. The study was qualitative, with descriptive features, which implied the combination as well as the usage of different techniques for data collection, such as surveys, field trips that were supported by the SW MAPS mobile application, and the participating observation.About the findings we can say that the district has an insufficient physical infrastructure, with poor conditions to covering the needs of the handicapped population in the area; the SITP bus fleet does not have the minimal and necessary retrofit to provide a suitable service, which leads this kind of population to have very difficult access to it, even when it is not in peak hour, generating these people to feel left behind concerning the rest of the population. As result of the research, the understanding of the perception in terms of segregation toward the handicapped population was broadened, by recognizing their needs and difficulties at the time of commuting; moreover, bus stops were spatially located, describing their characteristics in terms of infrastructure. Lastly, recommendations and proposals were made for the sake of improving the conditions of the system itself.
