The adoption was formalized in Colombia in 1968 in the administration of President Lleras Restrepo, at the initiative of his wife Cecilia de la Fuente de Lleras, an Institute was created with the purpose of fulfilling the functions of protection of helpless children, called the Colombian Institute. Family Welfare. International adoption in Colombia begins in 1993 under the Hague Convention. It is then, when the door is opened to foreign families so that they can choose Colombia as a destination for adoption. From this moment on, a path began that to this day remains open. As a constitutive part of this process, there is the ICBF as an official institution and there are several private adoption centers as accredited agencies that are in charge of presenting families with the different options and accompanying them in the procedures. In my opinion, there is a gap in terms of knowledge about aspects inherent to the particular experience of each of the families who decide to adopt. Adoption cannot be seen as an act of a simple legal procedure, the fact itself goes further, incorporating feelings, decisions that go from the country of birth of their future children, the knowledge they have about it and the expectations regarding the future that awaits both families and children. To address these issues, I had to look for an approach mechanism that would allow me dialogue, active communication and empathy, for this, contact was sought with foreign families willing to participate in the project, sharing their stories. The present work allows us to fulfill the objective of the work, since it was possible to understand the cultural and communicative contexts that families live in the moments before, during, and after adoption.
