This article aims to do a qualitative exploratory research on the general characteristics of undergraduate programs in economics in Colombia, in contrast to some Latin American countries, and the United States. The review for Colombia focuses on the universities accredited at the time of this analysis (2018). As a starting point, the main conclusions synthesized and obtained by authors such as Lora and Nopo (2009), and Castro and Raffo (2016) regarding the training of economists between 2007 and 2012, in which a kind of homogenization of curricula stands out, except for particularities in universities of a regional nature. A continuity in this trend is observed, and therefore, in order to demand for a professionalization in economics, the relevance of adapting without losing the essence, the contents to the changing world, and a sustainable development perspective, is highlighted.
