The purpose of this article is to analyze the foundation and disciplinary scope of the undergraduate in Planning and Social Development within the Social Sciences, based on the object of study of the career and the characteristics of the field of knowledge. Take as a case study the program offered by the University Institution Colegio Mayor de Antioquia, through a profuse consultation of secondary sources and interviews with different profiles that are part of the program. This work allowed to probe the breadth of social development as the axis of the disciplinary integration of the undergraduate, through its historicity, the university curriculum and the research products associated with the faculty. In the end, the research shows the challenges of a new professional career, which aims to strengthen its field of knowledge and disciplinary identity, within the framework of the social sciences. It also invites other young careers to reflect on their academic career, considering the current challenges of scientific production and the growing need for adaptation in highly complex societies.
