Patriarchal society, prevalent for thousands of years, has begun to erode and to transition to a more democratic and egalitarian one, where men and women interact socially from an equal footing. It’s a process that has been occurring for several decades, to which many women, but also, many men, have been committed; it has accelerated in later years with the increased access by women to the job market and to institutions of higher education. Thus, new family configurations are structured, as are new forms of social, political, and economic interaction within a changing society. No longer is the man the nuclear axis of the family and of society.
