Abstract:

Bariatric surgery is defined as weight loss surgery. It is used for patients with severe obesity and associated diseases in order to control excess weight as well as comorbidities. Due to the good results with this type of intervention, patients with slight overweight and without associated diseases increasingly go to the offices of surgeons, who request surgery with the objective of aesthetic gain. These patients are excluded from the indications for bariatric surgery. The work tries to argue from bioethical deliberation that this surgery is viable in this type of patient and that it should be included in the indications for surgery.
