Factores que favorecen y obstaculizan la culminación de los trabajos de grado en la licenciatura en lenguas modernas de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana
The following research aims at identifying the factors that either favor or hinder the completion of undergraduate degree work, in students of Modern Languages Program at the Faculty of Communication and Language, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota. The methodology use in this graduation work, has been based on a similar research carried out by Reisin (2009), which is of qualitative and descriptive nature. The main idea is to pursue a series of interviews to the students, who are facing a sort of problem, and counselors are also surveyed. In this study, four students have been interviewed, two of them who had not completed their dissertation yet, two who had already completed it, plus three advisors. The interview questions inquire about individual factors, including motivation, self-concept, family, workload, and writing skill. Institutional factors have been considered, for instance, institution's advisors, colleagues, academic load, and pace of academic pursuits . Among the main findings, it is has been found that the main factor is motivation in both senses: it may be the greatest obstacle to the non-completion of degree projects or it may be the greatest facilitator of its completion.
