A visit to the territory of the Bajo Calima Community Council was done in 2018. The Bajo Calima region, Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, is located in the middle sector of the forest ecosystem of the Colombian Biogeographic Choco, one of the hot spots of biodiversity worldwide. The floristic composition of the humid tropical forests is highly varied with great richness in wood species that, due to their accessibility, have represented an important source of raw material for the national forest industry. More than half of the wood consumed in Colombia was extracted from the Pacific Coast. At present, the wealth for the Afro-descendant groups is their culture and traditional forms of production, because of the biodiversity and the economic value derived from it, much has been taken away from them. There, it has its territory in the Community Council of the Bajo Calima with an approximate extension of 1034 hectares to half an hour of Buenaventura. In the Community Council, the concession of land to producers is awarded according to a regulation established by the council and is given in concession for use. Keywords: Tropical forest; housing gardens, rural development.
