It has been estimated that various species of chondrichthyans are being threatened around the world mainly by direct and incidental fishing (Dulvy et al., 2014), and the advance of fisheries towards ever greater depths, has affected species highly vulnerable to fishing such as deep-sea chondrichthyans (Dulvy et al., 2014; Pillans, 2009). In the Colombian Caribbean, a decrease in the abundance of chondrichthyans has been observed (Garcia et al., 2007), and some deep-sea species were reported in bycatch in this zone (Puentes et al., 2009; Castro-Gonzalez & Ballesteros-Galvis, 2009). Therefore, it is important to know which conservation actions developed on a global scale can be applied for the conservation of deep-sea chondrichthyans registered in this area. The present investigation was based on a qualitative systematic review of descriptive scope to learn about the life history, threats, and conservation actions of the deep chondrichthyan species registered in the Colombian Caribbean; the results obtained made it possible to establish conservation priorities in this region, and generate information that can contribute to the design of management and conservation measures.
