En Latinoamerica, Colombia consciente de las repercusiones negativas en los destinos y la necesidad de desarrollar una aplicacion de un turismo mas sostenible ha abanderado una politica de calidad con enfasis en esta materia, contando hoy con varios destinos certificados como destinos turisticos sostenibles, entre ellos Cartagena de Indias.Desde el Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo se han generado politicas que apuntan al desarrollo sostenible de la actividad, generando una serie de normativas (leyes, resoluciones y normas tecnicas sectoriales) que hoy son de obligatorio cumplimiento para la implementacion en cada establecimiento del pais. Cartagena de Indias desde el sector turistico de la ciudad se ha alineado a la politica internacional y nacional, iniciando desde el ano 2014 el proyecto de Certificacion del Centro Historico como un Destino Sostenible, el cual a traves de tres mesas de trabajo, donde se incluye la participacion de todos los sectores de la economia cartagenera, se busca generar acciones permanentes que mitiguen los impactos negativos del turismo desde cada pilar de sostenibilidad.Esta investigacion pretende evaluar dicha gestion realizada a la fecha, a fin de analizar los avances en la mitigacion de los impactos que la actividad turistica genera en este destino, y plantear un mecanismo de medicion del sistema a nivel de ciudad.
