Abstract:
Colombia and Ecuador are the richest countries in orchids due to the variety of niches and ecosystems associated with the topography of their bioregions. One of the most diverse and abundant groups is the subtribe Pleurothallidinae, within which Lepanthes is one of the most representative genera, albeit with a high degree of species endemism. Therefore, the objective of this research was to determine distribution and conservation areas for L. magnifi ca in Colombia. Field trips in southwestern Colombia were implemented and national and international herbaria were revised. A database in DIVA-GIS © was established in order to document its distribution, climatic niche modeling and conservation areas. Four native populations of L. magnifi ca are defined. Its distribution ranges from Narino in Colombia, to Pichincha in Ecuador. The elevation range extends from 1200 to 2200 masl. The ecological niche modeling relates to the areas where the species is preserved: Nambi River Nature Reserve and La Planada, in Narino in southern Colombia. For this reason, it is expected that conservation programs of native populations relate to the areas of climatic preferences.
