In this research, a characterization of inequalities in the mortality from specific causes (acute respiratory disease, malignant tumor breast, malignant uterus, malignant prostate, diseases hypertensive, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cerebrovascular diseases, assaults (homicides) including sequelae, diabetes mellitus, nutritional deficiencies and nutritional anemias) and their relationship with the socioeconomic characteristics in the department of Sucre, taking into counts the municipalities belonging to the subregions La Mojana, Montes de Maria and Golfo del Morrosquillo, in the years 2009 to 2013. An ecological study was carried out, the information was collected from from secondary sources, using information from the National Department DANE Statistics Department and DNP National Planning Department, determined simple and adjusted mortality rates by age for men and women, in eleven municipalities, for the events: acute respiratory disease, malignant tumor of the breast, malignant tumor of the uterus, malignant tumor of the prostate, hypertensive diseases, ischemic heart disease, insufficiency heart disease, cerebrovascular diseases, assaults (homicides) even sequelae, diabetes mellitus, nutritional deficiencies, and nutritional anemia. A characterization of the socioeconomic variables was also carried out: Unsatisfied basic needs (UBN), Value added per capita and illiteracy, later social inequalities were measured using EPIDAT 4.1 software taking into account the indicators: rate ratio extreme, relative index of inequality, relative index of limited inequality and concentration index. According to the results of the research, social inequalities were found for all the indicators used and with respect to all the variables socioeconomic levels in the five years of investigation for assaults (homicides) including sequelae in women, however for other mortality events There were also inequalities according to all the indicators and socioeconomic variables for at least one year.
