The objective of this research was to analyze social support and adherence to antihypertensive treatment in 152 patients with a diagnosis of arterial hypertension of the E.S.E. Hospital San Juan de Dios of the municipality of Carmen de Viboral located in the department of Antioquia, Colombia. The MOS questionnaire that measures social support and a semi-structured survey that measures adherence to antihypertensive treatment were applied. The results showed that the impact of emotional support was the most representative of all the psychosocial dimensions of the MOS and that more than half of the sample had good adherence to antihypertensive treatment at the pharmacological level. In conclusion, it could be said that different psychosocial factors may have a significant degree of influence on adherence to antihypertensive treatment in patients with arterial hypertension.
