Educación alimentaria y nutricional como herramienta para ampliar los conocimientos alimentarios de los niños escolares de un colegio oficial de Usme, Bogotá
Objective: To evaluate the effect of food and nutrition education on the knowledge related to food and nutrition of school children from an official Usme school in Bogota. Materials and methods: A community test of the before and after type was conducted with a convenience sampling. For the development of the study, socio-demographic characterization surveys were applied, tabulated by Microsoft Excel 2016. Group sessions were carried out with food and nutrition education strategies. A CAP questionnaire was applied before and after the interventions to evaluate the food knowledge and identify the stage of the transheoretical model of the participating children. The analysis of the before and after results of the CAP questionnaires was carried out using the McNemar and Wilcoxon tests using the STATA software. Results: The main findings reflect a change in food knowledge as well as a shift in the stages of the transheoretical model. Prior to the interventions, the children had limited knowledge about healthy eating and its components, after these improved the ability to differentiate between fruits and vegetables, knowledge about nutrients and healthy eating. Statistical significance was found (p <0,05) for the percentage change of knowledge and attitudes and the change in time of the intervention Conclusions: The strategies of nutrition education shod efficacy at the time of expanding food knowledge.
