The article presented is an invitation to the academic community of higher education institutions to reflect on the importance of innovation in educational models, seeking to make training processes flexible enough to meet the expectations of students, managers and faculty at the institution and the demands of increasingly complex and changing globalized markets. It is also pointed out that innovation is the most relevant factor in the generation of competitiveness in companies, demonstrating the existence of added value in the supply of products or the provision of services. Another factor of relevance to consider is the financial planning of the company to carry out the creation of value and the maintenance of it over time, the financing of research and development projects for the purpose of generating knowledge increase the per capita income from the registration of patents and trademarks in the relevant entities.
