The main goal of this study has been identify the strategic management of universities, focused on the case of Fundacion Universitaria Catolica Lumen Gentium (FUCLG), taking as the central components for this document, senior management interview and institutional documents.As a technique for gathering information, a discussion group was held with eight officials of the institution, three vice-rectors (academic, financial and pastoral and welfare), three deans, the planning director and the purchases director. This technique allowed to identify six principal issues related to university management and direction, university leadership and strategic planning, through eight questions that asked participants about the knowledge and the implementation in the FUCLG. At the endo, the findings of the study indicate the need to implement actions to improve the strategic management of the institution, due to the fact that there are gaps in the strategic institutional direction, and weaknesses in the leadership and the planning of the institutional direction. In fact, one of the proposed actions for the strategic strengthening of the institution is the implementation of a training program for the university directors of the FUCLG.
