Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemia is not unknown to otolaryngology practice, otolaryngologists who are often in contact with nasal and oral cavity secretions, with high risk of infection. Thus, it is necessary to use the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during inpatient and outpatient activities. A narrative review of the literature was carried out, highlighting the evidence available to date (March 2020). Although the current data is constantly evolving, this document is intended to be an applicable guide for all healthcare professionals, training medical staff, nursing, audiologists and phonoaudiologists involved in otorhinolaryngology activities, to understand the best strategies for protection from the highly contagious COVID-19.
