The main goal of this research is to describe the perception of cardiovascular risk in women with a history of DMG. The methodology was a qualitative, descriptive research was carried out using content analysis based on the method of Laurence Bardin. Decades ago, Gerald Reaven described metabolic syndrome as a precursor to diabetes. After him several authors gave continuity to the study of diabetes and its multiple complications, some related to cardiovascular diseases. Gestational diabetes mellitus (DMG) as one of the types of diabetes has also been shown to be related to cardiovascular conditions, there are currently standardized guidelines and protocols for its management especially during the gestational period, there are few studies showing complications after childbirth, however the studies analyzed in this research describe the existence of complications. The collection of the population was carried out through the technique of chain or snowball, the data were collected using the semi-structured interview with guiding questions validated by experts, which were recorded and transcribed, supported by field notes. According to the results, the women perceived the DMG as a disease that ends with the end of pregnancy as long as they have the respective care during pregnancy, otherwise they perceive that they may have the disease for their whole life. The participants were unaware of the relationship between DMG and the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, and therefore did not include protective actions against it in their lifestyles.
