Innovation is the way to advance in the economic and industrial environment, through the sophistication of processes, knowledge management and a culture of innovation in the organization. Increasing innovation capacities has been a pillar that has been worked on in recent years from the national government and business strengthening institutions; this is how the strategy Pactos por la Innovacion emerges, an initiative that seeks to promote the development of business competitiveness through training programs related to innovation issues. Within the framework of the Pactos por la Innovacion, this applied research work was developed, with a quantitative approach, in order to determine intervention strategies for closing gaps in innovation management in metalworking sector companies in Caldas; The selected companies participated in the Programas de Alianzas para la Innovacion y/o Sofisticacion. The instruments for collecting information were developed by researchers from the Autonoma University of Manizales and Camara de Comercio de Manizales from Caldas. The primary information was collected through interviews with those responsible for the innovation process in the selected companies. The method of multiple correspondences and non-parametric techniques were applied to identify relevant variables in the capacity for innovation. The articulated work between the entities of the innovation ecosystem is necessary to provide support from the diagnosis to the implementation of the innovation processes and thus reduce the gap in the innovation capacities of the metalworking sector companies in Caldas.
