In the last few years highway accidents have become an extremely important subject of interest for governments and public health due to the fact that they are one of the main causes of mortality worldwide. The highest highway accident rate in Colombia is recorded in the department of Antioquia, that is the reason why this study sought to determine the main areas with the highest accident rate on the primary highways, furthermore, to determine if there was a correlation between these points, the highway conditions (excellent, good, fair, bad, very bad) and the surface type (paved or unpaved). The piece of software used to accomplish these objectives was ArcGIS and its spatial autocorrelation tool (I from Moran Global). These tools allowed to find the points of highest accident rate in each of the studied highways, the route between Primavera and Medellin was found to present the highest rate. Additionally, it was shown that a spatial correlation exists, and is not linear.
