Three zones, located in different regions of Caldas, Quindio, and Tolima Departments, were selected to develop, on them, a reconnaissance program (Phase 1), oriented to detect smaller areas of specific interest for disseminated gold ore deposits. Based on identification of favorable geological features (e.g., hydrothermal alteration, mineralization, fracturing) and on analytical results of 107 rock-chip samples, severa! interesting areas were encountered. The two most important localities are: San Antonio (South ·zone, Cajamarca Sector), which is related to an hidrothermal breccia, and Gallinazo (North Zone, Villamaria Sector), which is related to an argillized subvolcanic stock. Other areas with some good possibilities are: La Julia and San Jose (South Zone, Cajamarca Sector), Toldafria-California (North Zone, Villamaria Sector), and El Eden, Cuba and El Condor (South Zone, Salento Sector). General recomendations, for a detailed surface exploration program at San Antonio area, are mentioned.
