This project seeks to identify and analyze the environment, characteristics and trends of the area of Information Science, Library Science, Archival Science (CIBA) and the academic programs associated with Information Management (PAAGI) in Colombia, the development of the sector and the projection of its professionals with emphasis on its workforce. The methodology used was based on a content analysis given on qualitative and quantitative deductions supported on data collected from official sources from the National Higher Education Information System (SNIES) and the Open Data Portal of the Government of Colombia. The results obtained based on analytical tools, allowed to validate a series of trends around educational processes wich reflect a deviation between the Information from one source and another, as well as a high concentration of academic training in the cities of Bogota and Medellin, the largest number of graduates in the technological academic level, in addition to the strong relationship of information management with other areas of knowledge such as Engineering, Law and Social Communication. Finally, useful elements were identified in the definition of skills and work profile in the area of (CIBA) which at the same time provide basis for the demand for qualified talent in this professional field.
