The issue regarding gender is always present and pertinent in all disciplines. It permeates every aspect of daily life, including, language and education. For this reason, a piece of work that is able to combine both topics is worth as a research subject. Therefore, the objective of this investigation is to highlight the social representations regarding gender in Spanish as a second language learning material. The process of selection for the corpus was done through a general survey of learning materials in Colombia. As a result, Enlace was deemed the most appropriate subject for analysis, considering the objectives of our research. The two methods of approach selected to achieve the main objective are content analysis and critical discourse analysis. The purpose of articulating these two approaches is to perform both an analysis of the macro structure of the text (Content Analysis), that is, the meanings and global themes they represent, as well as an analysis of the microstructure (Discourse Analysis), that is, the lexicon used in the material. This analysis is framed in Judith Butler's theory of Performativity and the critical analysis of discourse. In order to have a glimpse of how gender representations are constructed in two units of Enlance. It was decided that unit 3: Y tu, ?Que haces? (And you, what do you do? and Unit 5:?Como somos? (How are we?) are the most appropriate to carry out the analysis of this material since they deepen the thematic regarding physical characteristics and of personality linked to both sexes; because these categories reflect more explicitly, in this study, gender representations. By way of conclusion, although it was possible to show that the gender representations in these two units still respond to certain gender-linked stereotypes, it also shows that there are representations that move away from these hegemonic-normative constructions.
