Multifunctionality (MFA) is the agricultural production process that performs parallel functions to the production of food and fiber. However, the presentation of this theory is not clear yet, since the study of the joint actions that must be carried out in a production system to contribute to the development of this vision is limited. For this reason, and in order to contribute to the concept construction, the agro-alimentary production system of the arracacha cultivation (Arracacia xanthorrhiza Bancroft) is analyzed from this point of view, through the elaboration of a matrix of indicators, which was applied to investigate the producers through a survey where it was determined if the arracacha cultivation benefits the multifunctionality of the agroecosystem. The work allows discerning some field practices that build the topic, within which it manages: soil conservation, water protection, pest control, diseases and arvenses(weeds) with practices that do not affect the environment, synergism, tribute to biological diversity, social welfare, employment generation, and life quality, and so on. In this regard, the cultivation of arracacha under the Boyaca municipality conditions contributes to goods and services beyond agricultural production by presenting a multifunctional role.
