Bogota has the tradition of the Market Plazas since the sixteenth century, squares have been important points in the development of the city, providing food to neighborhoods and centers of urban growth. The administration of the District Marketplaces of the city, is commissioned by the Institute for the Social Economy which has established maintenance plans and improvement of the market places and whose investment for these processes in 2019 has been $ 48,498,378,000. However, this budget, which is divided according to the needs of each square, proves not to be enough to guarantee that the infrastructure of most of the squares is in optimal conditions for its use, representing a risk of safety and hygiene, and to agglomerate the number of people who meet daily for the commercialization of the products that provide the places of market. This project goes beyond the intervention of the building, since it understands the rehabilitation of the market as a way to intervene and rehabilitate neighborhoods of informal origin, and incorporate environmental and social issues, in such a way that there is a complete regeneration of the urban context. The intention is to position the squares and recover them for the city, converting them into tourist, gastronomic and cultural destinations. Although the Plaza de Mercado Quirigua has been one of the places with the greatest investment in its maintenance and operation, the current deterioration excels in sight and conflicts with the development of the commercial activity of the plaza, the accessibility and the capacity of provide opportunities for the development of complementary activities to the market place. In this way, the buyer-seller relationship is affected by the lack of adequate spaces for commercial dynamics, the indifference to public space and the way neighborhoods are developed. A proposal of urban and architectural design is then established for Quirigua Market Square and its surroundings, in such a way that the value of the sector that is degraded and deteriorated is enhanced, but with an important factor of potentialization, driver of change and regeneration. Therefore, I have called my project Urban Regeneration of Quirigua Market Square and the Bachue and Luis Carlos Galan neighborhoods, since a proposal will be made that articulates the context, starting from environmental, social and economic factors that stimulate the sector, through an important articulating element, which is the Quirigua Market Square.
