The present study aimed to characterize the cognitive skills of a sample of adolescents in the city of Medellin. The sample was composed of 31 adolescents between 10 and 15 years, of which 14 were males and 17 women; The school grade of the assessed ones went from fifth of primary basic education (EBP) to tenth of secondary basic education (EBS). For the evaluation of cognitive ability were applied the 15 subtests of the scale of intelligence for Children-fifth edition (WISC-V), in which the estimated rates of primary and secondary that allow assessing qualitatively and quantitatively the state of mental abilities; additionally, the data obtained will contribute to the validation of the WISC-V in the country1. The reliability of the scale was tested with the coefficient of alpha of Crombach (α = 0.93) which represents a high degree of reliability of the instrument used. Inside the general results, one found that the evaluated sample presents a performance low in skills related to the index of Verbal Comprehension, in contrast, its best performance is in the skills linked to the speed index of Processing. In the same way, it was found that the mean of the IQ is critical (M = 77,42) in the evaluated group as it is in the second standard deviation of the average population of reference. In terms of individual outcomes, it was found that 6 adolescents presented a CIT <70. The previous findings will involve measures and pedagogical actions by the corporation to which the adolescents of the sample are linked.
