The present research had as general objective to understand the processes of change emerging from the reflection on the construction of fatherhood and motherhood in families with experiences of family abuse, through a systemic clinical therapy. The project was carried out with the participation of three families with children, who had experiences of family abuse and attended to psychotherapy with a systemic approach at the IPS Consultores en Psicologia of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana of Bogota. A qualitative clinical intervention – research methodology was used, through a case study design. Clear pathways of intervention strategies were found, as well as alternative ways of assuming paternity, different patterns of expression of parental competences and a possibility of enrich and expand the meanings of parenthood that families currently conceive and practice.
