The objective of this study is to identify the correspondence between occupational competencies and essential competences in Public Health, performed by dentists and veterinarians in Quindio’s health Secretariat´s public health team. Methodology: Descriptive cross-sectional study that considers qualitative and quantitative data in its development. The population was made up of all the professionals in dentistry and veterinary medicinee who practice in the area of public health and work in the public sector in the municipalities of the department of Quindio. The size of the population was obtained from Quindio´s departmental secretariat´s database. The information was collected through the use of surveys. A descriptive statistical analysis was carried out, crossed tables were developed to establish an association between sex, profession and time in office. Simple correlation analysis through perceptual maps was performed for the cases in which association was evidenced. This allowed to identify which categories of the associated variables correlate. Results: Dentists and veterinarians linked to public health in the department of Quindio practice the essential competencies to perform in public health. However, in their practice, they ignore or vaguely incorporate the administration of financial resources, and planning in post-disaster reconstruction. Correlation analysis allowed to identify the application of conceptual foundations and use of the evidence of new knowledge in dentist and veterinarians with less time in office and less practice on more experienced professionals, as well as the evaluation of the effectiveness of health promotion actions and the system for monitoring and control.
